Carolina Marking Devices
Beginning as a store front operation on College Street in 1957 with one employee, to the present location on South Tryon Street with 45 employees, Carolina Marking Devices is one of the leaders in the manufacture of marking devices. CMD has marked two acquisitions, four locations and as many as 70 in-house employees. Over the years, there have been two CEO’s and three presidents at the reins. Although deeply saddened by the death of founder, Sol Shapiro in 1996, employee loyalty and determination to continue Sol’s vision of providing quality products in a timely manner remain the life force of the company.
Presently, we provide a full range of stamps which include stamps made of rubber and photopolymer, self-inking stamps, and pre-inked stamps using a gel or flash process. In addition to a large corporate supply business, CMD also provides short run printing orders including business cards, brochures and marketing literature. Most recently, the company has experienced growth in the engraving and signage/banner departments with the addition of a digital color Mimaki printer and most recently a new 120 watt laser.
 | Ada Shapiro, CEO and Owner, had worked along side Sol since 1981. When faced with the prospect of continuing operations or selling the company in 1996, she chose to continue. Under her leadership the company has expanded and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Ada predicts continued growth by providing new products and services to customers in the coming years. Jeff Shapiro, Vice-President of Operations and Fred Kinney, Vice-President of Production agree that the future lies not only in the development of new products but also in the continued application of quality control in production and distribution. |
